Seeking a Better Understanding of Emerging Donor Countries in the International Aid System

The initiative is currently focused on three areas related to assistance provided by emerging donor countries (also known as new donors or new development partners) to many developing countries around the world.

NGO Diplomacy Initiative on Development Financing

As part of its membership in the International Forum of National NGO Platforms, InterAction has undertaken an NGO Diplomacy Initiative in the area of development financing. The initiative is currently focused on three areas related to assistance provided by emerging donor countries (also known as new donors or new development partners) to many developing countries around the world.

Research on the extent and characteristics of aid provided by emerging donor countries. Information on their aid is not well understood, even as these governments have become significant sources of finance for a growing number of partner countries.

  1. Advocacy by national NGO platforms for transparency on the volume and characteristics of aid from emerging donor countries.
  2. Advocacy by national NGO platforms to the governments of both emerging donor and partner countries to engage with NGOs and civil society in policy dialogue on aid from emerging donor countries and the ways in which it is provided.
  3. This paper seeks to provide information about the extent and characteristics of assistance from emerging donor countries. The intent is to help lay the groundwork for national and international advocacy for transparency and engagement of civil society by the governments of both emerging donor countries and partner countries.
