2018 marks IFP’s 10 years anniversary. It also marks the evolution of our organisation’s brand from IFP-FIP to Forus This change will be effective in September 2018. Since its foundation, the IFP has been seeking to ensure civil society participation in decision-making processes and mechanisms of global governance and to promote the structuring and strengthening of its members. Bearing these objectives in mind, the IFP is organizing its 2018 Strategic Week in Santiago, Chile, from September 4th to September 8th. The Strategic Week represents a milestone for a general review of what we have collectively achieved over the last decade, and more importantly for starting a strategic exercise that will inform the orientation and focus of the IFP for the period 2020-2025.
At the same time, it also represents an opportunity for peer exchanges and alliance building that is decisive for facing the growing challenges imposed on civil society. To make the most of this moment, we have been preparing numerous activities for this exciting global gathering that will bring together national NGO platforms and regional coalitions from more than 60 countries and 6 regions. The events will include the third IFP General Assembly, a high-level policy debate co-organized with the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) as well as capacity development activities for members, and meetings with Chilean civil society activists. All these activities can contribute to the strengthening of solidarity across civil society globally, sharing success stories as well as challenges, and to the reflection on a new narrative on civil society’s role and the mission of IFP/Forus in this framework.
